Warriors to lead Warwickshire into basketball battle

Bromsgrove Editorial 20th Jul, 2020   0

A NEW basketball team is going to put Warwickshire back on the sport’s national map with three new squads for the 2020/21 season.

Warwickshire Warriors will enter two teams into the National Basketball League – competing in the men’s and under 18s categories.

Players attended the first of six tryouts on July 4 when several Great Britain team and England national prospects impressed at Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton.

This included Pharrell Wallace-Steele, a 6ft 7in, 17-year-old power forward, who has played in Bundesliga and represented Britain.

Team founder Roger Payne said: “There is an abundance of talent in the Midlands looking to play NBL basketball and we have already seen many at our first tryouts.

“Warwickshire Warriors are offering a great opportunity to talented players looking to develop, excel and build their reputation and we have big ambitions to become the best competitive franchise in the country.”

Warwickshire Warriors will also enter an under 17s team in the region’s Youth Basketball League, which will act as a feeder system for the national team.

Players looking to compete for a spot in the team can email [email protected] or visit www.ballersheaven.com for more details.
