BROMSGROVE B’s hopes of a top-two finish remain alive after a 6-4 triumph over Madley in Division Two of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Women’s Winter League.
Kelly Kenward and Hannah Weston were unable to get Bromsgrove off to a positive start after going down in three sets to the visitors’ opening duo 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.
The hosts recovered however, with Ann Banner and Isabelle Bracknall winning the second rubber 6-1, 6-3, followed by Kenward and Weston’s impressive 6-1, 6-0 success in the penultimate match.
Despite suffering defeat in the final rubber, when Banner and Bracknall lost out 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, the successive straight-sets victories were enough to give third-placed Bromsgrove the bulk of the points.
Leaders David Lloyd Bromsgrove A stay top of Men’s Division One after seeing off sixth-placed Stourbridge A 8-2.
George Southall and James Nolan got DL off to a flier by running away with the first encounter 6-2, 6-3 against Richard Banno and Denham Williams, though the alternative pairing of Liam Hadfield and James Troth had a more difficult time in their 7-5, 6-2 defeat by Adam Tranter and Jack Hingley.
Hadfield and Troth recovered to fire their way past Banno and Williams 6-2, 6-2, followed by Southall and Nolan’s 6-3, 6-0 thrashing of Tranter and Hingley.
DL Bromsgrove are 12 points clear at the top of the division, although nearest rivals Worcester have a game in hand.
