Taylor named Rouslers’ club and team captain

Bromsgrove Editorial 2nd Jul, 2020   0

BROMSGROVE Sporting are thrilled to announce defender Tom Taylor will be club and team captain for the coming season.

The skipper will be leading the Rouslers on the pitch whilst the club captain role means Taylor will be the players’ representative off the pitch and to the public at large.

The popular centre-back swiftly became a fans’ favourite with his no-nonsense, composed performances in the heart of the back line over the last two seasons and deservedly bagged the last two fans’ Player of the Month awards before the 2019/20 season was cut short due to the pandemic.

Manager Brendan Kelly commented: “Tom is a natural leader and leads by example with his performances – when he talks, people listen.

“He is also a brilliant, well-liked guy at the club and I am delighted with this.”

In addition, Kelly has moved to add Ross Thorpe to his backroom staff. Thorpe most recently held the position as head of coaching at Cheltenham Town FC.

Thorpe, who has previously been assistant manager at Chester FC, holds UEFA A and B licences and has also had coaching roles with Birmingham City and Nottingham University women’s teams.

He has an extremely good knowledge of the local area, having also worked with Alvechurch and Sutton Coldfield Town in the past.

Kelly added: “I’ve known Ross a long time now and he will be invaluable to us in helping me implement my ideas to the squad – both technically and tactically.

“His training sessions are excellent. I have been looking for a coach for a while – it needed to be the right fit and Ross is just that.

“His CV speaks for itself and I’m pleased he has joined us.”

As from July 1, all non-League clubs will be able to sign up players for the coming season, whenever it starts.

Kelly is currently drawing up his list of retained players and new signings. These will be published over the weekend of July 4/5 and can be seen on the club’s website at www.bromsgrovesporting.co.uk.
