Swans continue revival under Draper despite letting two-goal lead slip

FAIRFIELD Villa will look to continue their revival under Keith Draper when they visit Feckenham in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup on Saturday (3pm).

The Swans extended their unbeaten run to four games last weekend with a 2-2 draw against Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons.

Fairfield had led 2-0 after Matthew Powell and Ethan Hanks both found the net but the result sends Fairfield up to tenth in Midland Football League Division Two.

Manager Draper made four changes to the side that had beaten Stourport Swifts Under-21s in the Worcestershire Junior Cup, bringing in Aaron O’Malley in goal, and Matty Jackson, Ryan Gittings and Powell in the outfield positions.

Powell was in the right place at the right time eight minutes into the game to smash home from close range after the ball fell to him from a set-piece.

It meant the hosts led at half-time and a change of shape at the break helped Fairfield tighten their grip.

Three minutes into the second half, Hanks doubled Fairfield’s advantage with a composed finish after latching onto Kyle Xavier’s pass.

Boldmere began to enjoy more possession, though Dan Ludlow almost settled affairs when his ferocious strike was batted away by the Falcons keeper.

However, the Falcons pulled a goal back on 74 minutes when Kyle Hudlin headed beyond O’Malley, setting up for a tense finish.

With two minutes to play it was 2-2 when a scramble in the goalmouth led to Yousef Semlali turning the ball in at the near post, much to the disappointment of the home faithful.
