BARNT Green Sports Club youngster Sam Osborne-Wylde confirmed his status as the nation’s best under-13s player.

Sam, ranked number one in England in his age group, produced a sizzling display to win all his matches in the British Open to become under-13s champion in Manchester.

Top seed Sam came through a roller-coaster final to defeat 5/8 seed Jonah Bryant (Sussex) in the final.

The first game was rather one-sided with Sam taking it 11-2.

However, his opponent came out strong in the second game winning the first five points, and taking the game 11-8 to level the match.

But Sam, runner-up in 2015, was in mood to let victory slip and he rattled off the third game 11-7 before he secured the first six points of the fourth game to ease home 11-4 and take the match 3-1.

Sam has been playing at Barnt Green for four years and this year became the men’s club champion for the first time.

Barnt Green’s Kiera Marshall also represented the club at the British Championships finishing an impressive 10th in the girls’ under-17s.

The junior squash section at Barnt Green boasts seven juniors all ranked in the top 75 in their age group in England and continues to thrive under the coaching of former World Champion Bett Dryhurst and former professional player Chris Tasker-Grindley.
