BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith has boosted his striking options after capturing Danico Johnson from Redditch United.

As Wade Malley (ankle) is sidelined for up to a month and Chrisi Conway (anterior cruciate ligament) out for the season, the Rouslers boss only has Sean Brain and Jason Cowley available to him as out-and-out forwards.

With attacking options limited, Smith was over the moon to the land the services of Johnson after Tuesday night’s 1-0 victory over AFC Wulfrunians in the Polymac Packaging League Cup.

The former Coleshill Town and Hednesford Town product made seven appearances for the Reds in the Southern League Premier, all of them coming from the bench.

Johnson will be a familiar face among the Sporting faithful after scoring on his emergency loan appearance in the 3-1 victory over Stourport Swifts on August 22.

He is expected to be involved on Saturday when Long Eaton United are the visitors to the Victoria Ground for Non-League Day.

“Danico is a player I have been keeping my eye on for quite a while,” said Smith.

“He was outstanding for us when he came in for the one game and ever since I have been keeping tabs on him at Redditch.

“With chances limited there, Danico wants to be playing regular football and I am delighted to have struck a full-time deal for him.

“On the back of how we are playing on the pitch right now, it is a massive signing for us and a huge signal of intent.

“Danico brought into the ethic we have here at Bromsgrove and I am looking forward to working with him more.”
