BROMSGROVE Sporting have managed to capture Stafford Rangers striker Richard Gregory on a permanent basis.

The 28-year-old, who had been dual registered until now, featured in the Rouslers epic 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Coventry United in an FA Vase third round replay yesterday (Wednesday), scoring the second goal in a 3-3 draw.

Gregory also made an appearance for Sporting earlier in the season in a league game against Stourport Swifts, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory.

And Smith was delighted to have got the signing over the line in time for Saturday’s Midland League Premier Division clash against Coventry Sphinx.

“When the calibre of a player like Richard Gregory becomes available you have to try and do your best to sign him,” he said.

“I am absolutely over the moon to have got him to sign on a full-time basis and it is a big signal of intent from us.

“He is a huge signing for us. He has plenty of strength and has a proven goal-scoring record at all levels he has played at.”

Gregory made his name with Stratford Town, winning the golden boot in 2013-14 with 44 goals.

He has also been on the books of Rugby Town, Willenhall Town, Coleshill Town and Boldmere St Michaels.

“I am delighted to have signed permanently for Sporting,” said Gregory.

“It is a huge club that’s getting bigger.

“After speaking at length the gaffer knew I wanted in.

“The boys have made me really welcome too and the buzz from the fans when scoring last night was brilliant.

“I can’t wait to try and win trophies for the club.”
