MIKE Burke says he is looking forward to the challenge ahead after being elected as the new chairman of Bromsgrove Sporting at the club’s AGM.

The successful Black Country businessman has taken over the reins from vice chairman Jeff Rea, who occupied the position temporarily after the death of Jon Prescott, who passed away in July.

Burke, originally from Wednesbury, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience having been the vice-chairman and a director at Halesowen Town until a couple of years ago and being involved in football club management for a number of years.

Outside football, he owns and runs The Big Pet Store in Halesowen, who are one of Sporting’s major sponsors this season.

“Bromsgrove Sporting is a big club and we have a large and enthusiastic fan base who like me are ambitious and would like to see us move forward to play at a higher level,” said Burke

“Since getting involved, I have been impressed as to how friendly and passionate everybody is here from directors to the coaches and players through to the fans on the terraces.

“I would like to pay tribute to my predecessors and all directors for their hard work and dedication who have got us to where we are today.

“We have a highly motivated and experienced management team who have the potential to take this team further and I am thoroughly looking forward to the challenge ahead”.
