Rare tie for Bromsgrove Ladies A in summer clash

THERE was a rarity for Bromsgrove Ladies A in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League as they tied their clash with Worcester A.

Rachael Mack with Imogen Sinclair pulled off two great victories against Worcester’s first and second pairs, including a tense 7-5 final set win.

At second pair for Bromsgrove, Sally Franks with Tina Manning beat their opposite pair to give their team the vital third rubber.

However, with the Bromsgrove third pair just edged out in their matches the final result finished 3-3.

The count-back was needed to decide the winner but it ended up 7-7 in sets and 67-67 in games which resulted in a tie.

In another close match, the Ladies D edged past David Lloyd Worcester C in Division Seven East.

The heroes for Bromsgrove were Claire Hancock with Di Horton.

Stepping up from the E team they beat both their opposite third and second pairs in two sets.

At first pair, Lesley Hodson with Ros Cooke lost their opener but came back with a strong win in their second rubber.

With Yvonne Priestman and Sarah Davies struggling in both contests the final score was again 3-3 but this time the count-back went Bromsgrove’s way and they took the bonus points win.

It was a different story for a much-changed Men’s C team who were narrowly beaten by Droitwich C in their Division Five East contest.

In a match of hard-fought battles, the Bromsgrove pairs of Ian Pidgen with Phil Boardman, Max Feltham with Des Brown and John Dudek with Pete Morris each won one rubber.

It looked like Bromsgrove were going to snatch victory until an injury to Brown meant a 6-0 loss in their final set.

With the rubber score locked at 3-3, Droitwich took the win on sets won.

It was more clear cut for the Men’s E, though, as they beat Hallow C 5-1 in Division Nine East.

It was always going to be hard for Hallow as they arrived a pair short.

Justin Kai with Fabrice Vinson and Charlie Tait with Cameron Owen both won their only rubbers while Rob Kindon with Paul Douglas won one and lost one of the two they played.

The result lifted Bromsgrove into the promotion spots with a match in hand over leaders Wall Heath C who are just ahead.
