Protherough: Inconsistent squad selection the real problem behind Bromsgrove's woes

DAN PROTHEROUGH has bemoaned of lack of consistent squad selection after Bromsgrove succumbed to their fourth straight National Three South West defeat.

The Boars remain rooted to the foot of the table following their 52-38 defeat to Weston-super-Mare-based outfit Hornets at Finstall Park on Saturday (September 24).

Despite a spirited attacking performance which saw Josh Holt bag a hat-trick of tries and Matt Michel, Ollie Bache and Jamie Atkin also touch down as well as six conversions from James Upton, silly defensive errors eventually cost Protherough’s side as the game drew to a close.

The Boars boss was left disappointed after missed tackles from one-on-one situations led to the defeat but feels an inconsistent squad is the real problem behind their woes.

He said: “Saturday was a really strange game because everything we did well the week before we did not do well this time around.

“We looked dangerous every time we attacked but as the defence missed tackles, it cost us the game which was really disheartening.

“However what we really need is consistency. We need to start having the same squad selection each week so players can get more time together.”

Protherough will hope his side can claim victory at the fifth time of asking tomorrow (Saturday) when they welcome Devon-based Ivybridge to Finstall Park.

Jack Pons and Tom Hardwick are expected to make a return while Jon Critchlow (neck) remains sidelined.
