BROMSGROVE Men’s D secured a 4-2 victory over local rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove in Division Six of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire League with the help of debutant Ian Pidgen.

Pidgen paired up with youngster Aaron Oakes to win both their contests, putting Bromsgrove on the path to victory.

Matt Arnold with Chris Hands and Bruce Turner with Max Feltham won a rubber each but lost to the strong David Lloyd first pair of Bobby Samra with Paul Steele.

Feltham said: “For Ian to play his first match in a local derby was a big ask, but he and Aaron put in great performances.”

In Division Two, the Ladies B team maintained their unbeaten start as they cruised to a 6-0 win over Wall Heath A without dropping a set and taking maximum points.

Ann Banner with Katherine Smedley at first pair, Hannah Weston with Kelly Kenward at second and Sophie Cornelius with Linda Wooley at third outclassed the opposition with a great display of tennis.

In Division Five, the Ladies C team took on leaders Inkberrow and claimed a 4-2 victory.

Beccy Smith with Dilys Thomas playing at first pair led the way with two wins against tough opposition, being pushed to three-set games.

Isabelle O’Connor with Connie Wedelich and Lorrainne Russell with Ann Simper both won a rubber to give Bromsgrove a good win to push them up the table.

Elsewhere, the Ladies D team took on Fladbury with the team of Carol Cornellisen with Jane Corbett, Ros Cooke with Lesley Hodgson and Sue Forest with Sarah Davies secured another 4-2 win.

The win means promotion is still in contention despite losing their opening match of the season.
