Newcomer Pickering victorious at Alvechurch Fisheries

NEWCOMER Ron Pickering claimed victory in the latest Thursday Open at Alvechurch Fisheries as 20 fished the Horseshoe and Canal lakes.

Pickering drew peg 36 and elected to fish small maggot feeder up to the island, working across a number of swims to net a few carp up to 6lb and a mixed bag of silvers for 56.4.

In second place was Frank Bradley on peg five who rotated the bomb and maggot tactics out in front for his mixed net of stockies and silvers for 41.5.

Rob Gandley drew peg 12 on the canal lake and fished long pole and maggot across to the rushes, picking off fish from a number of lines for his all-carp and silver net of 40.7 to secure third place.




Les Ayres returned 34.7 off the same lake on peg nine, fishing similar tactics for his mixed net and fourth spot.

Fifth was Phil Evans on peg 24 who opted for pole and maggot tactics fished over a number of lines for a mixed net of 34.14.


Ron Taylor on peg three fished bomb and maggot, alternating a number of lines, for his mixed bag of 32.1 to complete the top six.

MALCOLM Brown was victorious in the Saturday Open which featured a top class field of 18 anglers.

Conditions were very overcast with continuous rain throughout and at the whistle for the all-in there was an immediate response which saw fish being netted from all around the lake.

On peg 28, Brown opted to set up a bomb and maggot attack to fish out in front and up to the rushes and this saw him get off to a flying start as he picked off a number of carp up to 8lb and then went on to boost his final weight with quality stockies and barbel for his winning weight of 70.8.

Trevor Hodges on peg three opted to fish waggler and bomb tactics into open water as he rotated the waggler and maggot shallow for carp up to 6lb, switching to bomb and maggot on the deck for a mixed bag of 60.3 and second place.

Third placed Ayres on peg 30 fished similar tactics over a number of swims for his all-carp net of 56.

In fourth place was Warren Beach on peg 26 who fished bomb and banded pellet out in front and up to the island for 51.3.

Fifth was Jake Cork on peg 30 who also fished similar tactics for 50.3 and sixth place was taken by Richard Johns on peg five who started on waggler and maggot shallow to net a few carp up to 6lb and stockies and barbel for 48.1.
