NEW Ravens lost out to Leamington Royals on Saturday in their Midlands Rugby League Division South clash, after again being blighted by injuries.
A 68-6 defeat was how the scoreline ended, with Leamington first to strike, before David Swaysland responded after good work from centre Lee Knight, fed by Brandon Sayce after breaking through a pack of Royals players.
David Wimbury added the conversion, but that was about as good as it got for the Ravens, who relentlessly bundled themselves over the North East Worcestershire try line.
Ravens gave as good as they could muster, having a number of opportunities to score in promising positions, but it was clear that they did not have the clinical edge to make them count.
Jason Spafford’s side hope to bounce back away to Nottingham Outlaws after a week’s break, on Saturday June 1.
The NEW Ravens Juniors side meanwhile, enjoyed differing fortunes to the senior side, and excelled at the first-ever Midlands Junior Festival at Hopwood Park on Sunday.
Hosted by the club themselves, the festival played host to teams from Telford, Nottingham, Bolsover and Malvern, with the under-11s side beating Nottingham Outlaws, Bolsover Bulls and Bassetlaw Bulldogs – scoring 20 tries and conceding just four.
The juniors displayed great endeavour going forward, and remained resolute in defence, to run out as winners in the under-11s category.
There were also fixtures for the under-15s, under-13s, and under-11s side during the festival, and allowed the boys to showcase their talents to the visiting clubs.
NEW Ravens Juniors train every Sunday from 10:30am at Hopwood Park, with children as young as three joining in with sessions.
The club are always open to new players, and invite anyone interested in joining to get in touch via the club’s Facebook page, or on the website at www.newravensrl.co.uk
