IT HAS been a triple triumph on the netball court for Bromsgrove Prep School.

Pupils enjoyed a double win at the Independent Association of Prep Schools regional netball championship at Uppingham School in Rutland.

Furthermore, the school’s netball first team were crowned National Independent Schools’ Cup champions after a thrilling final at the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village.

In the latter event, Bromsgrove secured a hard-fought 64-47 final victory over Alleyn’s School, who had defeated the gifted Millfield (Somerset) in the semi-final.

Backed by a vocal support, Bromsgrove retained the trophy they had won last year to be crowned national champions once again.

Bromsgrove’s Kitty Luscombe won the prestigious player of the competition award and the school’s head of girls’ PE Jenny Danks said: “I am immensely proud of this group of girls. They performed to a consistently high standard all through the cup.

“Their attitude, hard work and commitment is a credit to both the school and themselves.”

At Rutland, the under 12 team played in a round-robin format which featured eight ten-minute matches.

The girls demonstrated poise and composure all day to beat every team they faced as follows: Stoneygate 6-5, St Mary’s Hall 4-0, Witham Hall 9-3, Wellingborough 7-1, Barlborough School 10-0, King’s Ely 7-1, Foremarke Hall 8-1 and Moor Park (8-1).

The under 13s played in a group stage at the beginning of the tournament against Barlborough School, King’s Ely and Foremarke Hall and they won 23-0, 14-2 and 15-5 respectively.

This put Bromsgrove at the top of their group and through to the quarter-final against Wellingborough Prep who were beaten 19-4.

In the semi-final against Witham Hall, the Bromsgrove girls had a nervy start but recovered to win 12-7 and they went on to triumph 17-7 in the final and become regional champions.

Congratulations go to under 12s Phoebe D, Madison F, Jessica F, Georgia H, Naomi H, Meghan H, Riana H, Hannah O, Lauren R and under 13s Emily B, Ava B, Ava C, Honey Bo L, Luciana M, Teah P, Lucy S, Elizabeth S and Alexandra W.

Danks added: “We are extremely proud of all our pupils and staff at the school who keep the standard of netball so high and enable us to achieve these sorts of results year on year.

“I’d also like to thank the parental support which has been phenomenal. At Bromsgrove Prep School, all of our pupils represent the school in all sports from A-F level, which pushes our A teams to be the best they can be, whilst also facilitating ‘sport for all’.”
