More woe for Droitwich sides

Bromsgrove Editorial 5th Aug, 2020   0

FOR the second Saturday in succession, all four Droitwich sides lost their Worcestershire County League fixtures.

The 1sts were beaten by Bewdley by seven wickets in Trophy Group D despite reducing their opponents to 19-2 and seeing their nemesis of recent seasons – Rob Combes – back in the pavilion for just two runs.

Unfortunately that great start was undone by a host of dropped catches with Bewdley opener Mike Harris the main beneficiary as he guided his team to a second successive victory with an unbeaten 99.

Earlier, Spa were indebted to Max Young’s 86 as they scored 183 all out.

Stourport look as though they will be difficult to stop as they cruised to three wins from three – this time against Cookley by seven wickets – a victory which sees them remain the only unbeaten team in the group.

Droitwich 2nds ran Alvechurch close but they fell nine runs short of their 229-run target despite 60 from James King.

Spinner Ben Hallam wrecked the 3rds’ batting order with a spell of 5-6 as Ombersley won by 111 runs, whilst the 4ths were 96 runs adrift of the huge 279 all out posted by Buffalo Barnstormers.

On Saturday, Droitwich welcome Ombersley 2nds to St Peter’s Fields, whilst the 2nds go to Bromsgrove 3rds. Chaddesley Corbett are the opposition for Spa’s 3rds and it’s Bewdley facing for the 4ths.
