Mixed bag for Barnt Green's tennis aces

IT WAS a topsy-turvy week at Barnt Green Tennis Club as their Mixed A team turned on the style while their Men’s A side faulted in hapless fashion.

The weekend got off to a perfect start for Barnt Green as Manor Park C were thumped on their own patch by a resurgent Mixed A side who boosted their chances of staying in the top division.

Paul Bill returned to the fold and partnered Jane Hampson to two victories while big-serving James Hodges and Pauline Harman won one and lost one to leave survival very much in the hands of Barnt Green with two matches to play.

However, they failed to back up this performance on Sunday as the Men’s A team were humbled by a rampant Bewdley A, which dented their hopes of remaining in Division One.

This time Bill and Hodges teamed up with Paul Cowie and Dave Grinnell respectively, but gave the scorers as little work to do as the opposition as they lost all four matches comfortably.

Meanwhile, Green’s third pair of Paul Gordon and Chris Linsell were unable to offer much resistance to leave the A team in need of a good win away to Manor Park B on Wednesday to have any hope of avoiding relegation.
