Just four games survive as Bromsgrove and District League hit by cold temperatures

THE COLD weekend took its toll on the Bromsgrove & District League fixtures as only four games survived – three league games and one outside cup competition.

In the sole Premier Division fixture, Bartley Green Illey Sunday gave debuts to new signings Josh Moore, Luke Ellett and Michael Teji in a 9-0 rout of basement club Rubery Athletic.

The prolific strikers Connor Collins and Dan Lawrence bagged hat-tricks while Alex Dugmore, Chris Hickey and Brad Bullimore completed the scoring.

Collins and Lawrence also missed a penalty each in the victory against an Athletic side who are still awaiting their first points of the season.

There was a seven-goal thriller in Division One as FC Highgate United edged past Quinton Athletic 4-3 at the Four Dwellings Academy 3G pitch.

Tom Windsor-Price gave United the lead before Keil Sumnall pulled Athletic level on the stroke of half-time.

Kyle Morrison and Connor Wilson looked to have put United in control at 3-1 but back came Athletic as goals from Sumnall and birthday boy Matt Carter made it 3-3.

However, the hosts’ hard work was undone as their defensive woes allowed Ben Markall to race through on goal and score the winner for United.

Meanwhile in Division Two, Hizza United continued their fine form with a resounding 5-0 victory over third-from-bottom Callowbrook Swifts Green thanks to goals from Ash Parker (2), Martin Young, Scott Young and Jake Evans.

Elsewhere, Red Lion booked their place in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire FA Junior Cup with a 7-0 victory over fellow Bromsgrove League outfit Spa Athletic.

Ellis Kalach led the way with a hat-trick while Kingsley Smith, Ant Mcnally, Josh Green and Daniel Bearcroft grabbed one each.
