Jenvey fires Fairfield into last eight

PETE Jenvey’s 32nd-minute strike was enough to send Fairfield Villa through to the quarter-finals of the Worcestershire FA Saturday Junior Cup after victory over Stourport Swifts Under-21s.

Keith Draper’s much-changed side were good value for their win, with the added bonus of reserve team members Ron Adjei, Shane Kelly, Ethan Hanks and Dan Gordon all being afforded their chance to impress the manager.

Swifts were the first side to get a sight of goal, though Elliott Hart remained tall in the Swans’ goal to keep his clean sheet intact.

Jenvey netted the deciding goal following a well-worked move by Ethan Hanks, who played the ball through to the midfield to finish into the bottom corner.

Hart was forced into several saves after the deadlock was broken, while Hanks was unlucky not to register his name on the scoresheet after a couple of chances went astray before the break.

The forward remained a livewire in the second period and was denied the goal that he deserved when the Stourport keeper backtracked to tip over a lobbed effort from long range.

Fairfield will now host Midland Football League Division Three side Welland at the end of November.

Next up for Fairfield is a Division Two home game against Boldmere Sports & Social Falcons on Saturday (3pm).
