Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Richard Gregory writes for The Standard in his weekly column, providing his thoughts on the Bank Holiday weekend fixtures, and looks ahead to Saturday’s fixture.
WE look forward towards this weekend’s home game with Banbury, but first I must touch upon the Bank Holiday weekend fixtures against Leicester Road in the FA Cup and Monday’s trip to Stourbridge in the league.
A good win on Saturday put us in the hat for the next round, and although it was only a 2-1 scoreline, I’m sure those of you that were there will have seen that the game should have been out of sight.
But fair play to our opposition, they never gave up and made for a slightly nervous finish to the match.
Monday was a game that we were all looking forward to, with a big crowd expected for one of the many local derbies we will be facing this season.
We came up short against Stourbridge, and although I don’t think there was much in the game, I personally felt we could have performed a little better and maybe got something out of the game.
But overall, it’s been a positive start. We are new to this level and we’ve had some very tough fixtures.
We have been drawn against Stourbridge in the FA Cup, and for us players it’s one we are looking forward to, as we would like some revenge after Monday’s defeat.
A cup run is something we want this season, so again a packed-out Victoria Ground will make it another tasty fixture.
Another tough game against Banbury awaits us now on Saturday.
I felt the game was ruined for us last time out at home in the league with the windy conditions against Biggleswade, but it’s good to be back playing at the VG and I’m sure we can pick up a positive result going into September.
