Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Craig Jones writes for The Standard in his weekly column and reflects on the victories over AFC Dunstable and Kidlington as well as looking ahead to the Bank Holiday fixtures.
WHAT a start it’s been!
Going away to a team which reached the play-offs last year in AFC Dunstable was a tough opener and after a nervy start, which was to be expected, we put in an assured display.
The performance, result and backing from our fantastic fans who followed us down there made the return trip home a happy one.
On to Tuesday night and it was important to get off to a positive start in our first home game against Kidlington and we did just about that!
Forget about the result for a minute: the attitude and ruthlessness the lads showed was top drawer. We scored some unbelievable goals and more importantly to me, kept our first clean sheet of the season.
To have over 900 fans there on a Tuesday night was astounding.
Hopefully you all went home happy and will be back for the next one.
Two big, local games over the Bank Holiday will keep us busy and I know everyone is looking forward to our FA Cup match at Alvechurch before playing for points at Sutton Coldfield.
All this being said, we need to continue with caution.
It’s been a great start, but it’s just that, a start.
There’s a lot more football to come and it’s important we stay grounded and keep working hard.
Managing expectations may be tricky given what we’ve done in the opening games but for me the only expectations we need to reach are the ones we set for each other.
They are high enough.
