Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Craig Jones writes for The Standard in his weekly column, reflecting on the 2-0 victory over Welwyn Garden City, opinions on his own performances so far and the trip to Aylesbury tomorrow (Saturday).
SATURDAY’s game was billed as our toughest test.
Welwyn Garden City had a good start to the season like ourselves.
Fair play to them as they put us under a fair bit of pressure early on.
I thought as a team we defended really well and it’s credit to Bren, Andy and Kev who identified some areas we could improve upon and set up sessions which aided this during the week.
I definitely think those sessions bore fruit on Saturday in what I believe was our best win of the season, topped off by an always important clean sheet.
Thankfully we have another game this week, it’s important when we’re playing well we have games to keep our momentum going.
Credit must go to Dave Stephens for keeping us busy.
When he’s not trying to take my goals off me and give them to someone else, he’s very good at his job and someone who loves this club.
Bello (Mark Bellingham) somehow gained half of the goals I scored one season.
On a personal note, I’m really enjoying my football at the moment.
I’d go as far as to say it’s the most I’ve enjoyed training and games since I started adult football.
The dressing room is a great place to be with a top set of lads.
The management team are approachable, honest and knowledgeable.
And the fans’ following is unreal.
It’s our job as players to reward the faith shown in us.
Hopefully we can continue to do that.
