INSIDE VIEW - Craig Jones' Bromsgrove Sporting column

Bromsgrove Editorial 14th Sep, 2018   0

Bromsgrove Sporting skipper Craig Jones writes for The Standard in his weekly column telling us what has been going on with no competitive football being played.

IT WAS strange not playing football on a Saturday in September but we used the time wisely to rest up ready for some big fixtures ahead.

That being said there was plenty of hard work and fun on the training ground.

All the boys took part in a five–a-side competition with three teams decided by pulling names out of a hat.

There were some standout performers.

Referee Kevin Barry was brilliant….for the non-bibs team.

His decision-making was spot on….for the non-bibs team.

Aaron Roberts finally broke his duck for the season.

He is the only bloke I know who counts his goals in training.

And last but not least, Leigh McCaffery finished first place in the ‘play and look like Fabien Barthez’ competition.

Outstanding one minute, calamitous the next, he was undoubtedly the goalkeeper of the tournament.

It’s the real reason why Bren had felt comfortable in lending out Reece and Jon last week, knowing he has such a capable replacement up his sleeve.

In all seriousness, this week has been one where we have really grafted in training, working on certain things that we know can be improved upon.

The lads’ attitudes have been top drawer and the togetherness in this squad is one that will be hard to match.

Hopefully you will see the improvements on Saturday when we host Welwyn Garden City, a team who have also had a great start to the season.
