WET WEATHER failed to stop Bromsgrove Tennis Club’s Ladies A Teams sweeping to their third straight victory of the season in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Ladies Winter League.

Despite the conditions, Imogen Sinclair with Rachel Mach and Sally Franks with Tina Manning dropped only nine games between them in all four contests as they comprehensively outplayed Stourbridge to take maximum points.

The 4-0 away win keeps them at the top of the league and captain Franks said her side’s approach to the rain-affected match.

“Playing away in the wet and windy conditions was a challenge,” she said. “But I’m really pleased with the focussed approach of the team to secure the ten points today and complete three wins out of three in our opening matches.”

Bromsgrove’s Men’s E Team also clinched their third win on the bounce when they defeated local rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove’s D Team.

Again the partnership of Max Feltham with Bruce Turner put in a strong performance as they won both encounters in two sets, only dropping a few games all match.

The pairing of Chris Hands with Dave Jones had a tougher time as they triumphed in their opening contest but just missing out in their second in two close sets.

Captain Hands, whose side sit at the top of Division Nine, said: “Local derbies are always unpredictable, but Max and Bruce showed they’ve got the skill and temperament to deal with these situations.”

However, there was not such good news for Bromsgrove’s newly-promoted Ladies G Team who were edged out by Hagley in their opening Division Ten encounter.

Captain Avril Pugh introduced new player, Claire Hancox to the team for her first competitive league match, but she and partner Claire Andrews went down in both contests.

Pugh, playing with Di Horton, had a tight opening tussle losing 9-11 in a the final set tie break and then in straight sets.
