Hole-in-one for Droitwich golfer

A DROITWICH golfer had a day to remember as she clocked up her first hole-in-one at a recent competition.

Margaret Wood, who has a handicap of 19, scored her ace on the 98-yard, par-three 11th hole at Droitwich Golf Club.

The 55-year-old, who has been a member at the club for four years, said she was delighted to find her ball in the cup as her husband, Mike, had secured the feat at the same hole.

“On one or two occasions I got fairly close and it is a hole where you don’t know whether the ball has gone into the hole or not as it has an elevated green,” she said.

“So after hitting the ball up the hill, you get to the top and wonder where it is, but luckily I found it in the hole, which was fantastic and quite surprising.

“My husband has had a hole-in-one on that hole so that made it particularly nice.”

As well as the satisfaction of getting the ace, she was also awarded a special watch in recognition of the achievement. As Margaret is a member of the the exclusive BOSS Watches H1 Club, the luxury German brand stuck by its pledge to give a golfer a commemorative timepiece if they clinch a hole-in-one.

Stephen Brydon, commercial director for MGS Distribution, the official licenced UK distributor for BOSS Watches, added: “Congratulations to Margaret on achieving golf’s Holy Grail. To the majority of amateur golfers, recording a hole-in-one will be the most memorable thing they achieve in golf – a once-in-a-lifetime experience probably – and we want to ensure they have much better memories than merely a dent in their bank balance after buying drinks in the clubhouse.

“The exclusive BOSS watch is available only to golfers who record a hole-in-one. It will provide a constant reminder of the achievement and also help to ensure they’re never late for a tee-time again.

“We also hope it might add a frisson of extra excitement to club competitions for golfers who may not be in with a chance of winning the event, for they know that every time they stand on the tee on a par-three, they are just one shot away from winning a stunning timepiece.”
