IT WAS a hat-trick of wins for Bromsgrove Tennis Club as three of their teams won their opening Herefordshire & Worcestershire League matches.
The Mixed C team travelled to David Lloyd Dudley B in Division Four East where they ran out 4-0 winners.
A last minute illness saw Jack Walters pair up with Veronika Kumherova for their first match together while Voitek Niedzwiedz with Di Inchley completed the team.
The pairs played incredibly well as they only dropped one set throughout the whole game.
Walters and Kumherova really clicked as they won both rubbers in two sets and never looked in any trouble.
Having just pipped Bewdley B to promotion in the summer, the Men’s B knew they would have a tough opening Division Three East match against their rivals.
A tense match saw it finish 2-2 in rubbers, 4-4 in sets but Bromsgrove took victory by a solitary game, 34-33, on the count back to get the win bonus points.
Both pairs of Ash Rutter with Phil Boardman and Steve Jones with Jeth Tomlinson won and lost a rubber in two sets.
Captain Steve Jones said: “To get such a narrow victory in a hard fought away match against one of the strongest teams in the division is a great start.”
Also opening their account was Men’s F in Division 11 East as they beat Halesowen C 3-1.
New pairings of Andy Hewston with Paul Douglas and Ethan Oakes with Mark Wilson had some tough encounters but came through secure the win.
It was nearly 4-0 but Hewston and Douglas were just edged out in a close final set tie break in their opening match.
Afterwards Hewston said: “It’s great to get a good win, and Mark playing up from the G team put in a tremendous performance.”
