Hat-trick hero Potter inspires Bromsgrove to victory

CAPTAIN Andy Potter scored a hat-trick as Bromsgrove Hockey Club’s Men’s Fourths thrashed Lichfield Sevenths 6-1.

The victory in Central League South Division Two was one of Bromsgrove’s best performances of the season and also saw goals for Steve Longbottom, Alfie Pullen and Pete Hall.

Bromsgrove moved the ball quickly and used their wings well to open up the visitors on numerous occasions. This allowed Longbot30tom to score inside ten minutes before Pullen struck moments later.

Bromsgrove continued to dominate the half and scored a third via skipper Potter just before the interval. After the break a momentary lapse in concentration presented Lichfield with a rare opportunity which they took.

But the hosts soon kicked back in to gear, with two more goals for Potter to complete his hat trick before veteran Hall netted to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove Thirds failed to make their arduous trip to North Stafford worthwhile as they suffered a 2-0 defeat.

The balance of play was largely in Bromsgrove’s favour with strong performances in defence and midfield, but they were unable to find the net through a mixture of good saves and less than convincing finishing.

Amusing moments from the game include the North Stafford goalkeeper going to his knees to make a save and scooping the ball down his own shirt, and a penalty corner from captain Jonathan Grumball which hit the far sideline fence after the ball got caught in the hook of his stick.

But Bromsgrove were undone by a isolated break from North Stafford and the inability to score at the other end despite tremendous pressure.
