BARNT Green’s Men’s A team had plenty to ponder after following up an emphatic victory with a demoralising defeat.
Everything looked to be going swimmingly for Green as they whitewashed Manor Park, but they then finished on the wrong side of a 6-0 scoreline themselves as Worcester A proved too good.
On Wednesday night, Green could not put a foot wrong as the first and second pairing of Paul Cowie with James Flynn and Paul Bill and Chris Linsell recorded two straight set victories.
Third pair of James Hodges and Dave Grinnell did lose one set, but came through victorious as Green wrapped up a comfortable win.
However, they were unable to repeat that display against a
strong Worcester outfit. With Cowie and Bill missing, Alan Roberts stepped into the team to partner Flynn and despite running the opposition close they still did not quite have enough.
The defeat means with one match left to play the team sits just outside the relegation places but must get some rubbers away at Stourbridge in the last match on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Green’s Ladies A team completed an unbeaten season after they were handed a walkover against Boughton A. But they were still pipped to the league title by Bromsgrove B.
