THE NEWLY-promoted Bromsgrove Men’s B team came away with victory in their first Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Three clash against Ludlow Castle.
The new pairing of Jim Round with Ash Rutter hit the ground running.
Despite losing a tight opening tiebreak they fought back to take the rubber in three sets, this time winning the final tiebreak.
They followed this up with a more straightforward two-set win.
It was tight again for Matt Smith with Jeth Tomlinson. They opened with a good two-set win but then had an epic battle before losing 6-7, 7-5, 6-7.
Voitek Niedzviedz with Pete Morris lost a third set tiebreak to go down in their opener but stormed back to win their final rubber 6-4, 6-3.
The situation was reversed for the Men’s Dteam who lost to the newly-amalgamated Hagley & Blakedown team 4-2 in their opening Division Six East match.
Both Bromsgrove pairs of Cameron Owen with Rob Kindon and Ethan Oakes with Tom Round easily beat the opposition third pair, only dropping three games between them.
However, it was a different story for the first and second Hagley pairs who both triumphed in some close matches.
