Glorious finals day for Barnt Green Tennis Club

THE SUMMER season for Barnt Green Tennis Club ended with an excellent finals day in glorious sunshine.

The men’s final was a closely contested three-set match with Martyn Langston coming out on top against Simon Cowie.

Beth Harris retained her ladies final with a two-set victory over Sarah Morgan.

In the men’s doubles, Langston with Richard Peach beat James Flynn with Darryn Warner while Faye Edwards with Rachel Green overcame Pat Langston and Sally Gillespie in the ladies doubles.




Meanwhile, the mixed doubles event was won by Harris and Peach who defeated Paul Gordon and Caroline Harris.

The junior competitions were also held with Jonas Meredith beating Elliot Macvie in the under-12 boys final while Josh Turner claimed victory in both the under-16 and under-21 finals, overcoming Will Scarle and Richard Newton respectively.


In the girls event, Evie Turner beat Millie Flynn in a close match.

No sooner had the summer season finished, the winter season began as the Ladies B walked away with a 4-0 victory over local rivals Bromsgrove G in Division Ten East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire League.

Pat Langston and Linda Garvin won both of their games in straight sets while the second pair of Debbie Warren and Sally Gillespie dropped just the one set in their rubbers.

The Ladies A team were also in Division Three East action as they claimed a winning draw over Halesowen A.

Rachel Scott with Beth Harris and Faye Edwards with Caroline Harris won six more games on count back.
