FSK students continue to shine

Bromsgrove Editorial 13th Jan, 2021   0

MEMBERS of Wythall’s Furi Sutairu Shotokan Karate (FSK) are determined to take their impressive performances well into the new year.

Clearly, 2020 was a tough year for all martial artists, as not being able to train as a group in person affected all clubs.

However, this did not stop FSK continuing with its training. The group of students who train under Sensei Dave Treadwell took to Zoom sessions to continue with the art of Shotokan.

In 2020 Sensei Treadwell and his students competed in five online international kata competitions and took first-placed golds in every one.

This was down to the hard work students continued to put in regardless of the situation with not being able to train face-to-face as they had the correct mindset and discipline to continue training week in, week out with world champion Sensei Treadwell.

The new year has started as 2020 finished and on Sunday FSK took part in the first online international kata competition of 2021 – again coming away with a handful of trophies as every competitor from the club claimed a podium spot.

Sensei Treadwell said: “Being able to see the progression week in, week out from my students and the determination to chase their goals is what martial arts is all about.

“Well done to the following who took podium places – Joshua Thorp, Laura Smith, Joseph Pearson, Joshua Smith, David Andrews, Lexie Andrews and Sensei Dave Treadwell.”
