FAIRFIELD VILLA have announced that Wayne Davis will be the new first team manager with immediate effect.
Known for managing Bromsgrove & District League Premier Division outfit VBG Fairfield, Davis has made the step up to Saturday football and taken over the reigns of the Midland League Division Two club.
The appointment comes after long-serving managers Paul Oakes and Lee Shaw announced last month they would be stepping down from their roles at the end of this season.
Oakes and Shaw, who have been at Villa for 11 campaigns, have been an ever-present force behind the club’s success but this season, with a string of injuries and players moving on, Villa find themselves at the wrong end of the table in 12th position.
Now vice-chairman of the club, Oakes was delighted to see Davis accept the challenge of becoming the new first team manager.
“After a successful meeting of the board tonight (Monday), we are pleased to announce the new manager is Wayne Davis. He will take charge immediately,” he said.
“Wayne has a wealth of experience running a very successful Sunday team in the Bromsgrove League and his trophy haul is second to none.
“We approached Wayne a few weeks back and following tonight’s meeting, he said he wants to have a go at it and there was a unanimous decision to appoint him.
“It was difficult to step away after 11 years here but I wish Wayne all the best and we will give him all the support he needs.
“Myself and Lee Shaw send our thanks to Mark Cosgrove, Charlie Harris, Kevin Nind and George Leaver for all the support they have given us during our time with Fairfield.”
