Fairfield blunders turn game on it's Head

FAIRFIELD Villa will need to quickly get over the disappointment of letting slip a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home to Lane Head last weekend as they face two games in three days.

Goals from Reece Timmons and Daniel Ludlow gave a much-changed Swans a deserved two-goal lead in the first half of their Midland Football League Division Two contest, but the visitors rallied to score three times in the second period.

Defeat leaves Fairfield in mid-table, and next they visit fifth-placed Knowle on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Northfield Town on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Against Lane Head, Jake Bloomer put a chance on a plate for Timmons to steal in at the far post and touch the ball home on 18 minutes to give Fairfield the lead. Then Harrison Lang crossed into Ludlow who powered a left-footed volley past the opposition keeper.

Further chances were wasted by Timmons and Lang, and they were left to rue their missed opportunities after the break when defensive errors led to goals from Lane Head’s Ben Johnson, Antoine Julien and Adam Shorto to turn the game on its head.

Meanwhile, Fairfield have been dealt a home tie in the Worcestershire Junior Cup, and will play Stourport Swifts’ under-21 side on Saturday September 28.
