Emergency fund to help with hardship

DROITWICH Spa FC have set up an emergency fund for their volunteers and players experiencing financial hardship due to loss of earnings caused by the pandemic, writes Callum Perry.

The board of directors has launched the Droitwich Spa FC Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund, aimed at helping the families of players and volunteers who have seen a reduction in their income from their part and full-time jobs.

The fund has been created from the pockets of the board who have donated money from their own savings accounts and businesses.

Payments made by the club will help deal with emerging issues related to the pandemic and allow volunteers and players to access support when it is needed.

Wayne Oliver, the club’s director of football, said any current players or volunteers finding themselves in a difficult situation in which they are unable to pay a bill or have no money available for food could access the cash.

“All they need to do is pick up the phone and speak to one of us,” said Oliver.

“We will assess it and help them the best we can from the fund or even decide to pay a fraction of the bill ourselves.”

Those who want to apply should contact the board which will decide how much funding to allocate.

Club chairman Peter Lemon added: “In this unprecedented crisis, Droitwich Spa Football Club is determined to support our people affected by the virus.

“The fund will hopefully go some way to helping our people from going hungry and stay comfortable in their homes should they experience financial hardship as a result of the pandemic.”
