DANIEL Elliott’s century helped strengthen Avoncroft’s mid-table position after a four-wicket victory away to Worcestershire County League Division Three leaders Netherton.
After the hosts finished on a 219-7 total, the Croft smashed their way to victory with 23 balls remaining, to atone for the disappointment of an abandoned fixture the previous weekend against Barnards Green.
Avoncroft elected to field first, and were able to limit the hosts to a slow-scoring start until the introductions of Simon Oseland (26) and Asim Masood (59).
Pravdeep Sangha (29no) and Ibrar Hussain (46no) saw out the innings and added some late runs to take Netherton over the 200-run mark.
Paul Athey (2-29) recorded the best bowling stats for the visitors, while Elliott (2-30) and Luke Warren (2-41) also took a couple of wickets each.
Opener Elliott (104) took it upon himself to smash Avoncroft towards the 220 target and hit 15 balls into the boundary during his time at the crease.
With middle order duo Duncan Roke (14no, retired) and Ben Warwick (18) offering useful totals, adding to the 45 extras gained during the course of the innings, Avoncroft were always confident of victory.
The Croft look for a follow-up victory when hosting eighth-placed Martley on Saturday (1pm).
