IT WAS double delight for two of Bromsgrove Preparatory School’s teams at the Foremarke Hall Invitational tournament in South Derbyshire.
The Under-11 boys’ team were history-makers after becoming the first Bromsgrove side to win a hockey tournament at the Invitational, while the U11 girls’ netball team swept aside all before them.
For the boys, a successful group stage began with a 1-1 draw against Belper, followed by 3-0 and 1-0 wins against Sutton Coldfield and Altrincham respectively to top the pile.
Going up against Beeston, the other group winner, Bromsgrove’s young guns ran out 3-1 winners to lift the school’s maiden title.
The head of boys’ PE and games at the school, Gareth Jones, said the success is a continuation of their previous victories at U9 and U10 level, adding: “These boys are having another exceptionally successful year.
“They are a great group of boys who are superb role models for the school both on and off the pitch, and have illustrated their strength in a range of sports.”
After an opening 3-3 draw with Foremarke Hall A, Bromsgrove’s netball team were unstoppable, blitzing The Elms 10-0, Foremarke B 12-0 and Warwick Preperatory School 3-0 in the group games.
Unsurprisingly, Bromsgrove topped the group to earn a semi-final with Radcliffe College, and a 9-2 victory set up a re-match with Warwick Prep in the final.
Again, the outcome remained the same with Bromsgrove the victors, securing a stunning 8-4 success in extra-time to win the tournament.
