TALENTED Droitwich boxer Joe Doyle stormed into the quarter-finals of the National Schools Championship after a devastating display secured him the Midlands title.
The 12-year-old, who is part of the Droitwich Spa Boxing Academy, travelled up to Stoke-on-Trent where he overpowered Coventry boxer Owen Dudley, with the referee stopping the contest at the end of the second round.
Doyle, who has been undefeated for almost two years, will now take on the North West champion for a semi-final place this weekend in Birmingham.
Doyle’s father and trainer, Jason, said: “The quarter-final opponent was experienced and he came out of the blocks from the first bell but Joe was happy to go toe-to-toe with him.
“In the second round, Joe simply outclassed him with his speed, power and fast feet and it wasn’t really a surprise when his coaching team didn’t let him back off his stool.”
He added: “After such a resounding win, Joe is confident but realises that even though he is only three fights away from being national champion that there is still a lot of hard work to do if he is the one to be lifting the title at the end of the month.”
