WAYNE DAVIS was full of praise for striker Connor Collins after he netted the winning goal for Fairfield Villa in their 1-0 victory at Bloxwich Town over the weekend.

Villa moved up to seventh in the Midland League Division Two table after the former Halesowen Town sharpshooter netted in the 78th minute to down the Black Country-based hosts on Saturday.

Collins, who netted 44 times in 39 appearances for Villa throughout the 2014/15 campaign before making a move to the Yeltz, rejoined the Recreation Ground this summer following a spell with Bromsgrove Sporting where he scored 11 times in 37 outings.

Since making the move back to Villa, Collins has found a new lease of life and has bagged himself seven goals in 12 appearances in all competitions.

Villa boss Davis said: “Over the last few games Connor has been playing really well and he’s looking the player he used to be not too long ago.

“He causes opposition defences all sorts of problems and he has been absolutely outstanding in the last two games.

“I heard a lot about Connor before I became manager here and he has proved to me he’s getting back to somewhere near to the striker he used to be.”

Davis will hope Collins continues his scoring spree this weekend as Villa entertain fourth placed local rivals Barnt Green Spartak – who currently play their football at Highgate United’s Coppice Ground.

Lewis Smith and namesakes Ben and Scott are expected to miss the game while there are hopes Ollie Booth will make a return.

Davis said: “It’s a must win game if we wish to have any ambitions of finishing high in the league table.

“They are one of our rivals in terms of where we want to be at the end of the season so we have got to win, especially as we are on our own soil.”

Meanwhile goalkeeper Colin Matthews has departed for Midland League Division Three side Northfield Town while defender Matthew Turner, who plays for Millfield Rovers in the Bromsgrove & District League on Sundays, has joined.
