JO FROST claimed two medals including gold for Great Britain as competitors from close to 50 countries competed at the 20th European Masters Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.

Frost, who competes for Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club, won her heat in the 100m women’s 35-40 age group to book her place in the final, in which she finished third.

The 100m event was won by France’s Emily Jouberton in 12.53secs, whilst her compatriot Vanessa Alfara-Thole came second in 12.55secs and Frost claimed bronze in 12.74secs.

Frost said: “I was pleased with the bronze in the end as I picked up a slight injury three weeks before and wasn’t even sure if I would be able to run, so to come out and get a medal was a surprise.

“The time was disappointing, however, the medal made up for that.”

Any disappointment in the 100m was soon forgotten with victory in the long jump.

The gold medal was secured with a season-best jump of 5.61m.

Italy’s Christina Paganelli finished second with 5.33m and the Netherlands’ Wendy Visser took third with 5.20m.

Frost is now taking some time off before starting winter training and preparing for the European Indoors in Madrid in March 2018, when she aims to regain her European titles in the 60m and long jump.

She then enters the World Masters Championship in Malaga in September 2018 when she will compete in the new W40-45 age group.
