Bromsgrove triathlete Boswell finishes season at Ironman Vichy

BROMSGROVE triathlete Sam Boswell made a strong finish to her season after completing the Ironman Vichy in France.

The Ironman consisted of a 3.8km swim, a 180km bike ride and a 42.2km run.

During the run, Boswell moved up to third in her category and was closing in on second.

However, at around mile 12 she developed a hamstring problem and was forced to walk the rest of the way.

Despite this, her overall time of 11 hours and four minutes would have been quick enough to take the win at last year’s race but this year it placed her fifth.

“I had a strong enjoyable swim but I am always glad to get that out the way,” she said.

“Thanks to training well I was also able to really enjoy the bike rise and was pleased to average over 20mph for the 180km.

“The run is my favourite discipline but it didn’t go so well.

“I am disappointed with my position but I have to be happy with my finish time, particularly after such a troublesome second half of the marathon.”

Boswell, who is sponsored by Elliott Nash Ltd, is now taking some down time before focusing on the 2019 season.
