THE BREAK between the end of another successful Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League season for Bromsgrove Tennis Club and the start of the summer campaign is being put to good use.
Major improvements to the club facilities are due to start work with court one being completely re-laid with a new astro turf playing surface to match courts seven and eight.
Courts four, five and six are being re-painted in light and dark blue, the same colours many of the top tennis competitions use.
There will also be an additional two clay courts to offer a plethora of playing surfaces for all players.
The work is scheduled to take place in April and once completed, there will be another development day for young players to get involved in the sport.
Using the £10,000 grant awarded by Bromsgrove District Council as part of the New Homes Bonus as well as Bromsgrove TC’s funds, plans are underway to construct three mini courts for the exclusive use of younger players before they move to full size courts.
Speaking about the exciting plans, club chairman Steve Jones said: “The club is always looking forward and thinking about how we can improve our facilities.
“We are one of the leading clubs in the area with a strong community focus run entirely by volunteers and we want to give people the opportunity to play tennis locally at affordable prices.
“Sound management by our committee means we can continue to invest to provide the best facilities for tennis players in Bromsgrove and keep our fees as low as possible.
“For less than £4 a week an adult can play as much as they like all year round.
“The grant from Bromsgrove District Council has really helped to accelerate our development plans and means our facilities for those juniors just starting will be second to none.”
