BROMSGROVE Sporting have been promoted after a dramatic play-off final against Corby Town at the Victoria Ground.

The visitors opened the scoring on 33 mnutes through Elliot Sandy after an evenly matched start.

Richard Gregory equalised six minutes later through Richard Gregory and both teams went into the break level at 1-1.

Sporting were the more positive after the break and should have gone 2-1 up when they had a penalty – but Richard Gregory’s spot kick was saved.

Them two goals from Jason Cowley on the 59th and 61st minute saw The Rouslers go into a 3-1 lead.

But as Corby stepped up the pressure, the two-goal cushion only lasted three minutes and Diggin pulled one back for the visitors on 64 minutes.

And with six minutes to go, the promotion party was put on hold when Crawford gifte Corby a late equaliser to make it 3-3.

In the first period of extra time the end-to-end game looked like it could go either way but then Westwood scored with one minute to go until the break to put The Rouslers in front again. 4-3.

Sporting should have increased their lead in the 108th minute when the league’s top scorer Jason Cowley looked to have completed his hat-trick. But the referee brought play back and awarded a penalty for a trip on the frontman as he ploughed his way through.

Cowley stepped up to take the penalty but it was saved by the Corby Town keeper.

This time though, Sporting held on and at the final whistle the 3,000 crowd erupted into cheers as promotion was confirmed.
