BROMSGROVE School’s under-18 girls’ hockey team have qualified for the National Indoor Finals after finishing as runners-up at the Midlands event held at Repton School in Derby.

The girls started the day with an exceptional display of defensive determination and discipline to draw 0-0 with a Repton side featuring a number of junior internationals.

They then followed this up with a 1-0 over Warwick’s King’s High, a 3-2 victory over Oakham School and an efficient 1-0 success over Abbotsholme.

Malvern College awaited in the semi-finals and Bromsgrove started strongly by taking a two-goal lead.

However, Malvern managed to convert two penalty corners to level, taking the game to penalty strokes.

Ellie Childs and Claudia Moberley scored as Malvern missed both of theirs, ensuring Bromsgrove set up a tie against Trent in the final.

Unfortunately the girls lost 1-0 but this was enough to secure progression into the National finals which will be held at Bromsgrove School’s very own sports arena.
