BROMSGROVE Preparatory School’s athletics team won the Midland A final in Nuneaton to qualify for the English Schools’ National Track and Field Cup final.

It means the school has now qualified for the national final three years running, a feat that neither of the Bromsgrove Preparatory or Senior schools have achieved before.

More than 600 schools entered the junior boys competition alone, with nine counties taking part in the Midland tournament.

Bromsgrove are now ranked the ninth-best in the country, with the Year 7 and 8 girls teams recording stunning results in the 17.21m discus, 1.29m high jump and 7.52m shot put events. They totalled 352 points in the track and hurdles events to rank third in the region.

Gareth Jones, head of boys’ PE and games, was full of pride at seeing the school’s athletes excel at the Midland finals.

“We are delighted at how strong our athletics teams are this year,” he said.

“Outside the county of Essex, we are ranked second in the country.”

Bromsgrove’s young athletes will now compete at the All England National final on Saturday July 6 in Chelmsford.
