BROMSGROVE’S Mixed D team have secured their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division Six East status for an another year following their 4-0 victory over Bewdley D.

And it could not have started better against their relegation rivals as Annabelle Whitmore with Bruce Turner won 6-2, 6-1 and Lisa Rushton with Pete Morris won 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round to put Bromsgrove 2-0 up.

The second round then saw Rushton and Morris cruise to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Whitmore and Turner showed real grit to come back after losing their first set, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch a 4-0 win and guarantee another season in Division Six East.

Captain Whitmore said: “it was looking grim for most of the season but the way the squad has responded to get these final two great victories to avoid relegation is fantastic.”

The opening round went to Bromsgrove without any problems as they powered into a 2-0 lead.

Rachael Mak with Imogen Sinclair won 6-2, 6-4 while Tina Manning with Sally Franks had a comfortable 6-0, 6-1 win.
