Bromsgrove Mixed C wait on promotion fate

Bromsgrove Editorial 7th Apr, 2017   0

PROMOTION from Division Four East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League hangs in the balance for Bromsgrove’s Mixed C team.

In their final game of the season, Bromsgrove travelled to Evesham A and Connie Wedelich and Trevor Errington cruise to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the opening round of matches.

Di Inchley and Voitek Niedezwiedz had a long three-set battle before going down 1-6, 6-4, 3-6.

In the reverse contests, Wedelich and Errington lost out 4-6, 3-6 in a tight match but Inchley and Niedzwiedz won another long three-set battle 6-7, 6-1, 6-1. With rubbers and sets equal, Bromsgrove took the win 47-39 on games.

The six points from the victory puts Bromsgrove top of the table.

However, with just one match left, the result of Evesham A versus Kidderminster A this Sunday will decide which teams grab the two promotion spots.

In a tight Division One encounter, Bromsgrove Men’s A claimed a winning draw over local rivals Droitwich A.

With a shortage of players, Luke Petit teamed up with Ollie Stratford and Steve Halfpenny joined Adam Dudek in new pairings for Bromsgrove.

The first matches both ended in third set tiebreaks with Petit and Stratford winning but Halfpenny and Dudek just missed out.

Fortunes were reversed in the next round as Halfpenny and Dudek won in two sets but Petit and Stratford lost in two sets.

With rubbers and sets equal, Bromsgrove squeezed home 47-46 on games won.
