NEWLY-PROMOTED Bromsgrove Men’s D kicked off their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Four East campaign against the Men’s C.
The first round of matches went to the C team who opened up a 3-0 lead despite Dan Andrews with Trevor Errington of the D team pushing their opposite pair of John Casey with Tim Wright to a third set tie break.
However, the second round of matches saw the new D team pairings fight back to level the match at 3-3.
George Rogers with Stuart Shannon pulled out all the stops against Casey and Wright in a thrilling match, climaxing in a third set tie break victory.
Charlie Tait with Dave Brace fought hard to beat Max Feltham and Aaron Oakes, again in a third set tie break while Andrews and Errington beat Ian Pidgen and Alistair Liddle in two sets.
On the count back the C team took the two extra bonus win points by winning 8-7 on sets.
The D team captain Errington said: “All the junior players put in great performances and as their confidence grew they showed they’re well able to compete at this level.
“Despite this narrow loss we’re all looking forward to the season and I’m sure they’ll all improve as they get more matches under their belt.”
It was a day to forget for the Ladies C team as they suffered a 6-0 defeat Worcester B in Division Four East.
The pairs of Beccy Smith with Lorraine Russell, Marie Hackett with Connie Wedelich and Anne Simper with Isabelle O’Connor were no match for their local rivals.
