BROMSGROVE Men’s B tasted defeat for the first time in Division Three East of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League as they lost at Manor Park.

There were three, three-set battles, with a number of tie breaks but Bromsgrove were just edged out in two of them.

Jeth Tomlinson with Matt Smith pushed their opposite first pair all the way in the opening rubber but narrowly lost in the final set.

However they fought back in the second rubber to win in three sets.

New pairing of Steve Jones with Ash Rutter were again narrow losers in the final set of their opening rubber and went down in their second.

The result means Bromsgrove hang on to top spot, but Manor Park are equal on points, both having played five matches.

In Division Eight East the Men’s E team came away with a 3-1 victory at Wall Heath to maintain their top of the table spot.

Again the young pairing of Jim Round with Dan Andrews put the opposition to the sword with comprehensive two- set victories in both rubbers.

Chris Hands with Tom Andrews were pushed harder and won a single rubber to guarantee Bromsgrove the win.

With only one match left promotion is looking very much on the cards.

Elsewhere the Men’s D team played Division Six East promotion hopefuls David Lloyd Dudley A who are climbing the divisions and were on the wrong side of a 4-0 result.
