BROMSGROVE Men’s A secured an immediate return to Herefordshire and Worcestershire Division One after two 5-1 victories in a week.
The victory roll started with success over Belbroughton A.
In the opening round at first pair, Adam Dudek, playing with Steve Halfpenny, suffered his only defeat of the season but captain and unbeaten Ollie Stratford paired up with Jaspal Sambi to win.
The third pair of junior Stuart Shannon with Voitek Niedzwiedz pulled of a great two-set win.
The second round saw Bromsgrove take all three rubbers in some nail-biting tennis.
The following day the team travelled to Pershore and Luke Petit replaced Niedzwiedz.
This time it was Sambi and Shannon who just lost out in their opening rubber as Bromsgrove won all the others.
Captain Stratford said: “After last season’s disappointment when we lost a couple of key players we’ve gone straight back to Division One in both the winter and summer competitions.
“It’s been great to see three junior players in Stuart Shannon, Jim Hart and Jim Round step up to the A team and put in strong performances to support the more experienced players and I’m looking forward to the future with confidence.”
The Ladies A team claimed the runners-up spot in Division One with a final 4-2 victory over Leominster A.
At first pair Imogen Sinclair with Sally Franks won both rubbers after a slow start in their opening set which they lost 6-0.
The two other pairs of Ann Banner with Katherine Smedley and Joan Mcgregor with Kelly Kenwood each won a rubber.
Captain Franks said: “Claiming second place in such a tough competition is a real credit to all the squad and the extra players who have stood in when needed.
“We’ll be looking to go one better next year and take the title of top team.”
