A BROMSGROVE and District Football League official suffered a horrific injury whilst running the line during a pre-season friendly between Redditch United and Halesowen Town earlier this week.

Alan Buchanan was clattered into on Tuesday when a Yeltz player challenged a Reds opponent and, with the injury both visibly and audibly sickening, an ambulance was called and the match abandoned.

The 63-year-old was left with a broken leg.

A statement from the BDFL said: “We send our best wishes to league referee Alan Buchanan who has suffered a very bad leg break while officiating tonight. Get well soon.”

Reds boss Darren Byfield added: “Everyone at Redditch United sends their best wishes to Alan.

“Seeing anyone, let alone a 63-year-old official, suffer that serious an injury is always distressing and we all wish him as speedy a recovery as possible.”
