Bromsgrove Ladies on the up after superb wins

THE WINNING feeling remains strong at Bromsgrove Tennis Club as their ladies section secured two promotions in the Hereford and Worcester Leagues.

Following on from the success of the winter, the B and C teams added more accolades and they look set to increase their trophy cabinet as well as they close in on the title.

The Ladies B Team will be moving to Division Two following a 5-1 win against Evesham.  Steph Armstrong, Beccy Smith and Connie Wedelich gave the regular squad members Hannah Weston, Kelly Kenward and Sophie Cornelius strong support as they won this critical match comprehensively to make promotion certain.

Not to be outdone, the C Team guaranteed promotion with a match in hand after thrashing David Lloyd Worcester 6-0 to keep them top of Division Six.

The pairings of Beccy Smith with Steph Armstrong, Lisa Rushton with Dylis Thomas and Di Wilson with Anne Simper were just too strong for the opposition.

Ladies captain Sally Franks said: “After the great winter campaign all the players were looking forward to the summer and to have clinched two promotions already is amazing.

“The squads have gelled really well and as the B Team result showed we have great strength in depth we can call on when regular players are unavailable.

“They’ve set the bar high for the other teams as we complete our matches for the summer season.”

Meanwhile, the Men’s B Team remained unbeaten after three games thanks to a 4-2 win away at Boughton A.

Captain Steve Jones with Ollie Stratford led the way, winning both their rubbers, while Ash Rutter with Matt Smith and John Dudek with Jack Walters each won a rubber and lost one.

It was not such great news for the Men’s D Team who came unstuck against runaway Division Seven leaders David Lloyd Worcester B, losing 0-6.

However, they still retain second place and promotion is still appears to be on the cards after a run of victories prior to this match.

Elsewhere, the Mixed A Team of Sophie Oliver with Matt Smith and Kelly Kenward with Andy Brettell came out on top against local rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove A, winning 3-1.
